How does the climate of the Northeast affect the people, animals, and plants that live in there?

If you know the general temperature of the area this is an easy problem. 
If you connect the kinda of climate that area is (example: tropical=sunny-warm, palm trees).

 So, the Northeast's affect on the people would be they have to deal with cold winters.
Animals' food supply changes a lot with the seasons.
Tree drops their leaves to survive the lack of water.

In simple terms, since the design of this society is based on mass production, there is no natural equilibrium maintained in terms of consumption. And hence an industrial society is inherently unsustainable due to the ever growing consumerism.
