The creation of our national government was a complicated process based on learning from failure and compromise. Describe the pr
In-s [12.5K]

America's Constitution was originally based off several other documents such as the Magna Carta and the Articles of Confederation. After the failure of the Articles of Confederation, the United States needed a document the would have the country work together as one body more than as 13 individual bodies. The Articles of Confederation did not allow the National Government to tax anybody, therefore making their only income from selling western land, borrowing from the states, or borrowing from other countries. They could not draft soldiers for war or regulate trade. This caused many issues when traveling across state lines or when trying to ship goods. They also did not have a president to lead the central government.

There were 5 main compromises that made the constitution work including the Great Compromise, the Three-Fifths Compromise, the Commerce Compromise, the Slave Trade Compromise, and finally the election of a President.

The Bill of Rights was adopted to insure all men equal freedoms and individual liberties in the eyes of the law and the Government.

Did John Adams increase or decrease tension in the USA?
kirill115 [55]
John Adams increased tension in the US during his time as president. He served during a period of naval conflicts with France. During this time he oversaw the Alien and Sedition Acts, which effectively banned protesting or speaking out against the government and paved the way for the deportation of immigrants. These acts were sold as protecting the country from anarchy, but they were widely viewed as suppressing dissent and punishing those who disagreed with the Federalist Party by individuals such as Thomas Jefferson.

What did congress promise by passing the Jones act?
marusya05 [52]

The final result was the Jones Act of 1917, which converted the citizens of Puerto Rico into Americans, although not as a full-fledged non-State: they do not vote in the presidential elections and the laws passed by their government-elected for the first time by Puerto Ricans in 1948 - they can be vetoed by the United States.

In fact, although the Jones Act granted Puerto Rican civil rights (and also obligations, such as being part of the US military conscription: 20,000 Puerto Rican soldiers fought in World War I), the United States continued and continues to maintain control over its affairs. fiscal, economic, military, postal, etc.

They also committed to work in the territory of the Philippines so they can be independent.
