Answer and Explanation: Figurative language is the use of non-literal, day-to-day normal meaning of a word or phrase. Writers use it to make their narrative more dramatic or more interesting.

There are different types of figurative languages, like metaohor, similes, hyperbole and others:

"I asked you a million times no to yell," Polina cried! is using a <u>Hyperbole</u>, which is a big exaggeration, usually to convein humor;

The hail storm is a monster and The snowflakes glistened like diamonds are making use of <u>Metaphor</u>, as the writer is comparing two things by using one kind of object to express the likeness between them;

The stars winked at me from the darkened sky is a <u>Personification</u>, i.e. is giving something human's characteristics: stars don't wink, only humans do.
