Andrew Jackson was the only president (up to then) to have not undergo formal schooling. This was one of the numerous things that his party, the Democratic-Republican Party, promoted to the voters. His nickname, "Old Hickory" highlighted his shared background. His party frequently stated how he was born in a log cabin, and his rags-to-riches story was mainly repeated.
