  • Wegener gave his continental drift theory as the founding stone in the history of the evolution of geologic time of the earth 1912, and suggested that there existed large landmasses on history of earth surface as in the form of Pangea,  two major super landmasses, and Laurasia as the northern landmass which led to the formation of North America and Northern continents around the world.
  • The southern landmasses consisted of Gondwana and included the southern parts of landmasses like South America, Africa and Antarctica along with Australia.
  • The evidence that he gave where in the form of jigsaw fit amount the continents South America and the coastlines of Africa, the finding of same mountain chains and ranges around different parts of the world.
  • The presence of various plants and animals like the lemures and glossopteris flora were found in the bottoms of the Atlantic ocean as they tended to move westwards.
  • Another evidence he gave was the findings of similar climates around the world that were associated with the movement of plates and also gave importance to the ocean currents and movement of crust under the force of gravity.
