Waterways were among humanities first major transport routes. Whereas oceans acted as barriers in ancient times, in modern times they have been highways of travel and trade.

They see the world's oceans as roadways. Instead of seeing continents with water in between them, they see water with land forms in it. They see water ways as a way for different cultures to connect
