Pre-Raphaelite paintings were often based on late Medieval
and early Renaissance works. It harkened back to the stylistic medieval
period and made it as an ideal combination of art and life. The Pre-Raphaelite
painters commonly known as the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood aimed to revive
British art by using this style of paintings.
They aimed for a return of maticulous detail, vibrant colours, and complex composition of Italian Quattrocento art. Many times they associated their work with religion, history, and nature. Pre-Raphaelites did not like classic poses, elegant compostition, or methodically put together peices because they believed it corrupted the academic influence of art.
