This then changed back to nervousness. And her anxiety started to build as she recalled the names of those she had met thus becoming intimidated as stated in the text. To me, it just means that the older you get you do get closer to your death but you also experience new things that make you get comfortable with dying so you might as well be happy and live fully while you can and not think about you getting closer to dying.
