The other monster Grendel meets on the moors is the dragon. The dragon is a symbolism of greed and evil, with his own lair being surrounded by riches and heritages from countless civilizations. Upon meeting the dragon, Grendel is presented a completely fatalistic view of life, where the former argues that at the end, everything is a result of a chain of accidents leading from one thing to another, and that nothing matters, because all living things must die. While Grendel cannot agree with this, it serves as a turning point in his story, and slowly comes to accept that some parts of it are indeed true.

Elina [12.6K]
Feudalism helped protect communities from the violence and warfare that broke out after the fall of Rome and the collapse of strong central government in Western Europe. Feudalism secured Western Europe's society and kept out powerful invaders. Feudalism helped restore trade. Lords repaired bridges and roads.

Who said it?
yaroslaw [1]

This is a quote by Elizabeth Proctor.

It is an important quote from The Crucible (1953) by Arthur Miller, a play that explores the story of the Salem witch trials in Massachussets in 1692.

In the play, Elizabeth Proctor is accused of witchcraft by Abigail Williams, her husband's mistress. In that way, the quote is from Elizabeth to John. In this excerpt of the play, she is talking about Abigail, who apparently wants to take Elizabeth's place. Therefore, Elizabeth uses these words to explain her husband that his mistress accuses her of witchcraft because she is motivated by jealously.
