Let’s take a look at the paragraph:
“Sometimes increases or decreases in demand are not connected to price. On a stormy night, the Burger Barn may be nearly empty while the phone is ringing off the hook at the Pizza Palace with orders for delivery.”
Based on the main points of this passage (in bold above), it’s clear that the demand for burgers was not influenced by price. In this case, it was the storm that discouraged people from going out to the Burger Barn. Rather, they chose to have pizza delivered directy to their home.

In South America, there are many corrupt governments and violent gangs. The governments were put there by the Soviets or Americans. It was the Cold War (which was about influence) and so they put many governments in charge. This lead to mass immigration to the U.S were life was easier and Texas just so happened to have the largest border with Mexico than any other state.
