Domain-specific words are the ones that are not likely to be used in everyday speech, but rather are connected to a certain field of study. Reading this text we see that its theme are new discoveries about fossils, so we're safe to presume that we would come across some words connected to paleontology. Answer such as climate, scientists and dinosaurs are words that people in general are familiar with (lot of kids have dinosaurus toys, we hear about climate everyday in weather report, we know about many famous scientists and their discoveries). However words avian and carnivorous, although we might know their meaning, are mostly used in paleontology.

The word to be filled in this problem would be salary. Though you can use other words and/or phrases that would just fit in like a glove to complete the thought and make sense out of it. Since there is no particular instruction as to what is to be needed to be filled in there, then any word or words or phrases or even sentence fragments will do. As long as the thought is complete and that it makes sense when read, then there is no problem.
