Match each element of figurative language with its example from Kate Chopin's "The Storm.

1. A. "They seemed to swoon together at the very borderland of life's mystery" is a hyperbole. Hyperbole is a way of writing that makes something sound bigger or better that it is. It's needed to emphasise something or to add humour to the situation.In our case the clue is "very borderland".

2. B. "Adjoining was her bed room... The door stood open." should be a foreshadowing. Foreshadowing is the way of writing that warns you that something will happen in the future.

3. C. "If this keeps up, Dieu sait if the levee's goin' to stan it!" is an allusion. Allusion is something that makes you think about particular thing or person. 

4. D. "Then he returned to his perch on the keg and sat stolidly (unemotionally), holding the can of shrimps while the storm burst." - this one is symbolism. Symbolism is a type of literature that is used to express ideas or states of mind by using words and images.

5. E. "If she was not an immaculate dove in those days, she was still inviolate." is a metaphor. Metaphor is the figure if speech that is used to describe a person or object by referring to something similar to that person or object.

6. F. "The rain was coming down in sheets, obscuring the view of far-off cabins and enveloping the distant wood in a gray mist." should be imagery. Imagery is a literary device that uses figurative speech to represent objects in a way that it calls to our real senses.

7. G. "Oh! she remembered; for in Assumption he had kissed her and kissed and kissed her; until his senses would well nigh fail, and to save her he would resort to a desperate flight." - is 100% a flashback. Flashback is a sudden memory of the event that happened in the past.

8. H. "Somber clouds that were rolling with sinister intention." - in my view this one is personification. Personification is the figure of speech which gives human qualities to the animals or non-living objects.

9. I. "Her lips were as red and moist as pomegranate seeds." - is definitely a simile. Simile is just comparing one thing with another by using the words "as" or "like".
