In Book 1, Odysseus is with Calypso on Ogygia. The story takes place ten years after the Trojan War, and Odysseus is the only hero who hasn't yet returned home to his wife Penelope in Ithaca. He is basically trapped on the island of Ogygia, with the goddess Calypso, who fell in love with him and won't let him leave.
