Generally speaking, the federalists were led by Alexander Hamilton and John Adams, while the Dem-Rep's were led by Thomas Jefferson and James Madison. Hamilton and Jefferson being the more primary leaders, despite Adams and Madison also claiming the presidency and leading their respective parties during those times. Alexander Hamilton was never president, but stood as one of the most influential founding fathers who never gained the office of the presidency (alongside Benjamin Franklin).
