In the 31 countries at the bottom of the list, 28 of which are in sub-Saharan Africa, a person can hope to live on average only 46 years, or 32 years less than the average life expectancy in countries of advanced human development, with 20 years slashed off life expectancy due to HIV/AIDS.

__________ is bordered by two Central Asian countries. A. The Harirud River B. The Aral Sea C. The Caspian Sea D. Lake Balkhash
Cerrena [4.2K]

The Aral Sea is bordered by two Central Asian countries.

Explanation:

The Aral Sea is located in Central Asia. It is in the territory of two countries, roughly divided in half, with the northern half being in Kazakhstan, and the southern half being in Uzbekistan. Despite the name, it is not actually a sea, but instead it is a lake, which is remnant of a former ocean that existed tens of millions of years ago. It has been called sea because of its saline water.

The Aral Sea though is on the verge of drying out. The main reason for this has been that the local population is using extensively the waters of Amu Darya and Sir Darya, which are the two rivers that supply the lake with water. Having its water income significantly reduced, and being in a very dry area, the evaporation surpasses the flow of water coming into the lake, so it has gradually been drying out.

Other lakes in the region are:

  • Caspian Sea
  • Lake Bolkhash
