Rapid economic development produced vast prosperity during the Gilded Age. New crops and machineries were improved which made a large influence to the quality of life of the middle-class. However, the workers and farmers did not share with the wealth, which led to working overtime with not enough income. The rapid growth in their personal wealth was attained when the collection of income tax was halted.
