The correct answer is "B".

The Japanese Empire adopted a new model of government with the beginning of the Meiji Period in 1868. The current model, which granted the ruling emperor absolute power, was changed for a constitutional monarchy, in which the country's affairs would be managed by a cabinet led by a prime minister.

The country entered an aggressive industrialization policy during this period, adopting many technological improvements from the western world which were previously banned by the Tokugawa Shogunate, which was the previous regime to the Meiji. Japan knew they had geographical restrictions and in order to fuel their industrialization, they needed foreign resources. This was the main reason behind their invasion of mainland China and Korea in the 1890s.

How did the election of 1896 demonstrate tensions between farmers and the wealthy?
Rashid [163]
For decades there had been significant debate about the amount of currency in circulation. Farmers wanted more to able to have loans at lower interest rates. Obviously this did not appeal to businessmen who would want to have higher interest rates. In the years prior there had been considerable debate over the use of the gold standard and increasing the minting of coins in silver. This would be the last election where a major candidate could win the presidency by winning only by the agrarian or "farmer" vote, due to the increase in urban centers throughout the U.S. passing the threshold.

What was the purpose of D-Day?
Margaret [11]
The question is kind of tricky. D-Day was the code word for the Allied invasion of France, so D is definitely a possible answer. But the PURPOSE of that invasion was in part to defend Britain, which at the time was being threatened by Nazi air attacks and by a possible Nazi invasion. So A is possible as well.

The overthrow of Mussolini was certainly a factor in the Allied strategy, but the invasion of Italy, not France, was how that task was accomplished. So C is out.

There's competing evidence over how much the Allies knew about Auschwitz by the time of D-Day. Either way, the immediate purpose of D-Day was not to free the Jews from Auschwitz, though that was an ultimate result of D-Day. So B is out.

Since the question is asking the PURPOSE of D-Day, I think A is the best answer. D is more of a description of what D-Day WAS rather than an explanation of its PURPOSE.

How did the South's focus on cotton cultivation separate it from the North? How did cotton
s344n2d4d5 [400]
The south was mainly agricultural, cultivating cotton in some form was most people's entire livelihood, creating sort of a cultural divide from the north. plus, the menial and arduous labour in the south was incredibly appealing for slave owners, but this didn't happen in the north where factories and mills were everywhere and staffed by non enslaved people. cotton united the two by the south growing it and the north turning it into textiles and other finished products. together they had quite a good system since each part was able to specialize
