Kilometers are the unit of measurement most commonly used to express distances in a map in Spanish-speaking countries. Spanish-speaking country use what is called "sistema métrico decimal", which is a a metric system. Miles, pounds, inches, are not used as measurement units. When using the metric system, measurements are all divisible by 100. For example, one kilometer equals a thousand meters. A meter equals one hundred centimeters.
