Answer:

The main theme of "The Two Offers" is different ideas about women's roles.

Explanation:

"The Two Offers" by Frances Watkins Harper tells the story of two cousins and the two marriage proposals that one got. This story is believed to be the first work to be written by an African American writer to be published.

The main theme of the story is the different ideas of what a woman's role is. The two characters are Laura Lagrange and her cousin Janette Alston. Laura got two marriage proposals and decided to marry a man who proves to be worthless. On the other hand, Janette decides to stay a spinster. But the main point of the story is, what or how much of their actions are based on their own decisions and opinions? Or are they influenced by the patriarchal society they're living in? Through these two women, Harper shows just how women are living during those times.
