In American society, romantic love is considered the main reason for people to marry. On the other hand, in some societies, roma

ntic love is considered a form of obsession or madness. In fact, even in many societies where "true love" is not considered a form of insanity, arranged marriages are still the norm. For example, in many cultures it's believed that marriage is basically an economic arrangement. Thus, a farmer needs a wife both to bear children and to share the farm work while raising new "hands" as additional farm labor. In other societies, marriage is mainly about cementing connections between families. Indeed, most marriages between members of European royal or aristocratic lineages were primarily aimed at creating trust, loyalty, and mutual obligations between privileged and powerful families. What is the main idea in this paragraph?        A. Different societies have different ideas about the purpose of marriage.   B. True love is a sound basis for marriage.   C. Marriage is usually a family affair.   D. Arranged marriages are more practical than those based on romantic love.

The main idea of the paragraph is "A". 'Different societies have different ideas about the purpose of marriage.' The paragraph was listing different reasons why different cultures wanted to get married. Choice "A" best corresponds with that.

kow [346]

Answer:

Metaphor.

Explanation:

Metaphor is elucidated as the literary device that includes a comparison of two distinct and literally inapplicable ideas to invoke an implied similarity between them that assists in explaining or clarifying the idea.

In the given example, the use of 'cup' to describe 'endurance', 'abyss' to 'injustice', 'bleakness and corroding' to depict the 'despair' exemplify the unrelated, literally inapplicable, and implied comparison to reveal the similarities between them that helps the author to clarify the idea more effectively. Thus, <u>'metaphor'</u> is the correct answer.

Question 1
andrew-mc [135]

Answer:

As we strive to improve conversations about race, racism, and racial justice in this country, the environment in which we’re speaking seems to be constantly shifting, which shows that these conversations are more important than ever. We’ve put together some advice on finding entry points based on research, experience, and the input of partners from around the country. This is by no means a complete list, but it is a starting point for moving these discussions forward.

Please note that while there are many reasons to communicate with various audiences about racial justice issues, this memo focuses on messaging with the primary goal of persuading them toward action. There are many times when people need to communicate their anger, frustration, and pain to the world and to speak truth to power. Doing so may not always be persuasive, but that obviously doesn’t make it any less important. Since we’re considering persuasion a priority goal in this memo, please consider the following advice through that lens.
