President Andrew Johnson vetoed the Freedmen's Bureau Bill on February 19, 1866.

The Republicans in Congress passed with unanimity the Second Freedmen’s Bureau Bill and a Civil Rights Act.  Both provided more federal assistance and supervision for Unionists and free slaves in the Southern states. Johnson vetoed the two bills. The veto was overridden months later.
