The member of the congress salary of $158,000, speaker of the House/ Vice President both makes $193,600 and President Pre Tempore of the Senate $172,900.  Each member has a special tax deduction they are also given generous travel allowances; they pay small amounts for a great health medical care package and retirement plan. They are also given allowances for their Offices in the or near the capitol and Funds for hiring staff.

The ride was carried out by seven blacks and six whites left Washington, D.C into the segregated Southern United States which leads more than 400 volunteers who traveled towards the Southern United States after the first set of the freedom ride passengers were assaulted. The Riders were <u>successful in convincing the Federal Government</u> to enforce Supreme Court decisions.
