From the deck behind his house, Mike Cooke can watch the sun set behind his favorite holes at the Onion Creek Club golf course.

Lately, he's been wondering if he'll ever get to play golf on his favorite part of the course again. Heavy rains in November damaged the golf course badly. Officials at the public golf club have let it be known that the damaged holes might not be rebuilt because it will cost so much.
Many of the club members are not at all happy about that. Some of the 625 playing members, including Mike Cooke, are thinking about pooling their talents to help the club. They do not want to lose a chance to play the same holes on the same golf course that they've enjoyed for so many years. Also, Onion Creek has a wonderful golf program for students. It's free and teaches young people the game. Skills learned on the golf course carry over to problem solving in real life.
The Onion Creek course has flooded before. Fourteen years ago the club repaired over $1 million in flood damages. Officials think that current repairs would cost at least that much. Mike Cooke owns a landscaping company and some heavy machinery needed for repairs. Also among the members are architects, engineers, and construction workers. They will use their knowledge and experience to give back to this community and repair the course at a fraction of the cost.

What is the passage mainly about?
A.
the golf club members repairing flood damage at the Onion Creek golf course
B.
how much Mike Cooke enjoys living in a house right beside the Onion Creek golf course
C.
how difficult and expensive it is to take care of a golf course that is built on a creek
D.
the high cost of repairing flood damage done to a golf course at public golf clubs

Neporo4naja [7]

This question is missing the answer options. I have found them online. They are the following:

A. "She reached the end of the street and made one majestic leap..."

B. "The stray cat stalked down the street."

C. "Her walk was proud..."

D. "... she settled over a meal of broken bones, a back alley Cleopatra."

Answer:

The detail that contains an allusion is:

D. "... she settled over a meal of broken bones, a back alley Cleopatra."

Explanation:

As is explained in the instructions, an allusion is a reference to a famous character or person, one whose story - true or fictional - is well known.

In the passage we are analyzing here, the allusion takes place when the author mentions Cleopatra, a famous queen from Ancient Egypt. By comparing the cat to Cleopatra, the narrator is attributing characteristics of the queen to the animal - dignity, pride, beauty, elegance. The allusion makes is possible for the author to not have to say those words. Since everyone knows who Cleopatra was and what traits and behaviors she was famous for, by simply alluding to her, the author conveys a deeper description.
