Recombinant DNA means introducing foreign genetic material into the genome of an organism. This introduced DNA will bear its foreign characteristic on the organism causing the organism to be transgenic. Recombinant DNA works by cutting the genome of n organism using the right restriction enzymes to cut at the desired point and then introducing the foreign snippets of DNA –with hanging ends complementary to that of the cut genome-  and then reannealing. The foreign DNA will be inserted into the genome of the organism. Gene expression will cause the organism to have altered characteristics in congruence with the introduced foreign DNA.
