The Battle of Saratoga was a two-part battle with the initial part described as the Battle at Freeman's Farm and the following is recognized as the Battle of Bemis Heights. The significance of this battle can be seen in the fact that it was eventually won by the American colonists. This battle gave a boost to the confidence of the American colonists and persuaded the French to help them. In the first battle, the British force under the leadership of John Burgoyne won the battle but in the second battle, the Patriots under the leadership of Benedict Arnold and Horatio Gates influentially defeated the British force.
