Puritan communities in the United States were one of the first types of European settlements that could be found in the country. Puritans came from Europe in order to escape the persecution that they faced in their home countries. They wanted a place where they could freely practice their religion.

Puritan settlers built their communities in the eastern United States. Here, they were self-sufficient, and practiced agriculture on a small scale. In these areas, land was fertile and the Puritans benefitted from this. Moreover, natural resources were widely available. Most towns were organized around a central area where people could interact. Because of this, people in these communities were usually close to one another.

  • Part of the US Constitution that covers the process for ratification of the Constitution — Article VII

Article Seven describes how U.S. states may ratify the Constitution, including how many (nine) must ratify it to make it valid.

  • System where government power is divided between national and state (local) governments — Federal system

The United States functions according to a system of governance called federalism, which means that the White House (national government) shares power with smaller units like state, district, and municipal governments. States actually have their own Constitutions, which tend to be more specific than the national one. While Washington controls foreign, defense, and monetary policy (among others) over the whole country, it delegates to state & local governments everything which has to do with police departments, schools, driver’s licenses, and parking tickets for example.

  • People that were against the ratification of the Constitution. They felt the national government had too much authority and that it would come to abuse its power. They also disliked the fact there was no Bill of Rights to state the rights that citizens had and to work to protect those rights. — Antifederalists

Antifederalists preferred the previous 1777 document serving as a constitution, the Articles of Confederation and Perpetual Union, because it gave state governments more power. A leading Antifederalist figure among the Founding Fathers was Patrick Henry.

  • The Federalists agreed to add a Bill of Rights to the Constitution, during the first session of the Congress for the new Constitution. They asked that they ratify now and amend the Constitution later. They agreed to the compromise and ratified. — Massachusetts Compromise

The Massachusetts Compromise is important because it guarantees that amendments may be added to the Constitution.

  • People that were supporters or “For” the ratification of the Constitution to replace the Articles of Confederation — Federalists

Federalists also existed as early as the United States' creation by the Founding Fathers. A prominent example is John Adams, second president of the U.S. They however lost influence at the turn of the 19th century with the election of Thomas Jefferson.

5 Important Things About Decolonization in the Congo
igomit [66]

Answer:

The answer is below

Explanation:

During the decolonization of Congo, here are the five important things that occurred:

1. Prior to independence, the Congolese voted a president, Joseph Kasavubu, prime minister, Patrice Lumumba, a senate and assembly, and other postion in the Congo’s various level of government.

2. On July 5, 1960, Congolese soldiers in the Force Publique mutinied against their white Belgian commanders at the Thysville military base, agitating for higher pay and more opportunity and authority.

3. On July 11, 1960, the richer Katanga province had declared its independence from the Republic of the Congo, which was later followed in August by South Kasai province.

4. On July 13, the United Nations agreed on resolution which made the creation of an intervention force, named Organisations des Nations Unies au Congo (ONUC), and called for the withdrawal of all Belgian troops.

5. On September 5, Kasavubu dismissed Lumumba from the government. Lumumba ignored the decree and dismissed Kasavubu.

6. On September 14, 1960, in a bid to avoid civil war, Colonel Joseph Mobutu of the Congolese National Army (CNA) carried out a coup d’état and later ordered the Soviets out of the country.

It should also be noted that Patrice Lumumba was later arrested and killed, under Joseph Mobutu administration.

What did Gandhi hope to achieve through the civil desobedience calling on all Indians to observe “a day of prayer and fasting”
Juli2301 [7.4K]

Answer:

Through the civil disobedience Gandhi told the Indians to observe “a day of prayer and fasting” as they wanted to make them strong mentally for this movement.

Explanation:

The motive of calling a one day fasting is to make the Indians more strong against the British government. Prayer is the way of reminding God for strength and power to fight against the wrong activity.

The Civil Disobedience Movement was one of the mass movement launched by the Indian National Congress against British imperialism. By 1929, India began to doubt the intention of Britain whether it would execute its declaration of grant of colonial self-government or not. The Indian National Congress announced at the Lahore Session (1929 AD) that its goal was to achieve complete independence for India.
