The math does not follow the rules of math; Of course can say 1 + 4 = 52 + 5 = 123 etc, etc. However the rules of math state 1 + 4 does not equal 52 + 5 = 57. The logic of the math breaks down immediately in the first equation. There is no logic in absolute mathematics to this equation. There is no answer.

Use this information to evaluate the following. Hint: do not try to solve for the value of a.
Rasek [7]

Answer:

a. 1.23

b. 0.23

c. 7.96

Step-by-step explanation:

Use laws of logarithms:

log(a*b) = log(a) + log(b)

log(a/b) = log(a) - log(b)

log(a^b) = b*log(a)

log_k(k) = 1

a. log_a(15) = log_a(3*5) = log_a(3) + log_a(5) = 0.50 + 0.73 = 1.23

b. log_a(5/3) = log_a(5) - log_a(3) = 0.73 - 0.50 = 0.23

c. log_a(8*a^7) = log_a(8) + log_a(a^7) = log_a(2^3) + log_a(a^7)

  = 3log_a(2) + 7log_a(a) = 3(0.32) + 7(1) = 7.96

QUESTION 1

We want to simplify,

5x + 10y + 7x - 4y

We regroup to obtain,

5x + 7x + 10y - 4y

We simplify to obtain,

12x + 6y

QUESTION 2

We want to solve

5x - 14 = - 34

We group like terms to obtain,

5x =  - 34 + 14
Simplify

5x =  - 20

We divide both sides by 5 to get,

x =  \frac{ - 20}{4}

This gives us,

x =  - 5

QUESTION 3

We want to simplify

2(p + 8) = 26

We divide both sides by 2 to obtain,

\frac{2(p + 8)}{2}  =  \frac{26}{2}

p + 8 = 13

We group like terms to obtain,

p = 13 - 8

p = 5

QUESTION 5

The inequality given to Bob was

- 2x + 5 <  \: 17

He added the additive inverse of 5 to both sides to obtain,

- 2x + 5 - 5 <  \: 17 - 5

He gets

- 2x  <  \: 12

He needs to divide both sides by -2 and reverse the inequality sign to obtain,

x >  \:  - 6

The error is that, he forgot to reverse the inequality sign.
