Native Americans believed that there was different gods for every season, every animal, species, etc. 
For example, if a drought occurred and it finally rains after many months, they would praise their god of rain. If harvest came late, they would pray without ceasing to mother nature, asking for mercy and forgiveness if they disrespected her in anyway.
