Answer:

They had a hard time choosing the topic of their project.

Explanation:

<u>Pronoun-antecedent agreement refers to the correspondence in number that must be between the subject and its antecedent, which is the noun that the pronoun replaces</u>. As a result, a singular pronoun must coincide with a singular antecedent, while a plural pronoun must correlate with a plural antecedent.

The rest of the choices must be revised like the following:

  • <em>Students can research any subject they are interested in as long as </em><em>their </em><em>subject is related to the city’s history. </em>
  • <em>We included a lot of photographs in </em><em>our </em><em>presentation. </em>
  • <em>I plan to take </em><em>my </em><em>own pictures of interesting old buildings around the city.</em>

Highlight the central idea of this paragraph in pink and the supporting details in yellow.

The first object which saluted my eyes when I arrived on the coast was the sea, and a slave ship, which was then riding at anchor, and waiting for its cargo. These filled me with astonishment, which was soon converted into terror when I was carried on board. I was immediately handled and tossed up to see if I were sound by some of the crew; and I was now persuaded that I had gotten into a world of bad spirits, and that they were going to kill

Answer:

The central idea of the paragraph is:

The first object which saluted my eyes when I arrived on the coast was the sea, and a slave ship, which was then riding at anchor, and waiting for its cargo

The supporting details are:

<u>"These filled me with astonishment, which was soon converted into terror "</u>

<u>"I was now persuaded. . . they were going to kill me"</u>

<u />

Explanation:

A central idea of any text is the element that unites and brings together all the other elements used by the author to write the story. It can be the main impression found in the story.

The main impression found in the excerpt is that of a slave arriving at port and how his life would shape up as a slave.

Supporting details of any text provide details, clue or information that support the central idea. They help to validate the central idea.

KiRa [710]
Odysseus's journey reflects on his dynamic character. Starting with Polyphemus, Odysseus's hubris reflects how pride destroyed him no matter how intelligent the plan. After this encounter, Odysseus begins to evolve into the man we see throughout the hardships he faces throughout the book. On calypso's island he was trapped by the gods, and felt no underlying hope that could drive him home to Telemachus and Penelope. However, after escaping, he has hope and willpower where he finds strength in cunning intelligence which brought back his pride and ambition. In the Illiad, Odysseus is the most intelligent and thoughtful of the kings, and so Homer uses this as his the driving characteristic in his personality as he finds his way home to Ithaca. No pride, no intelligence, no ambition? No Odysseus.
