Read the excerpt from Anthem, by Ayn Rand. Neither am I the means to any end others may wish to accomplish. I am not a tool for

their use. I am not a servant of their needs. I am not a bandage for their wounds. I am not a sacrifice on their altars. I am a man. This miracle of me is mine to own and keep, and mine to guard, and mine to use, and mine to kneel before! The imagery of servitude and sacrifice reinforces the theme that the moral purpose of a person’s life is to
A.seek his or her own happiness.
B.serve a higher power.
C.fight against oppression for all mankind.
D.reject selfish desires.

A.seek his or her own happiness.

In the excerpt the speaker is talking about how she is not a servant, tool, bandage or sacrifice for anyone else. She is not the one to provide anyone happiness especially at the cost of her own. We see this focus on the speaker's happiness in the last line of the excerpt when it says "This miracle of me is mine to own an keep" In this line the speaker takes responsibility for her own happiness, and in turn shows that happiness is the responsibility of each individual.

What is a parable?
Mkey [24]

The answer is option B "A short story set firmly in reality told to illustrate a moral or religious lesson." Parables are made strictly for religious or moral lessons for example bible stories for children or any other religious principle made to tell their beliefs to another person. Short stories are also good examples of parables because they have a moral that they want the reader to take to heart and learn.

Hope this helps.
