The Reformation which began in the early 1500s by Martin Luther and John Calvin. This movement and other movements led to fractures and ultimately a major schism in the Christian Church in Europe. The schism brought the division of Europe between Protestants and Catholics, which had enormous religious, political, and social consequences for the centuries that followed.
