It could be argued that world history is the story of human choices that link the past to the present and influence the "future," since as the classic saying goes: "Those who do not learn from the past are destined to repeat the past's mistakes."

World history is the story of human choices that link the past to the present and influence the FUTURE.

On the first hand, history influences the present and future because old decisions do still have an effect on the current days, and will still affecting the economic, political, social and cultural characteristics of societies. For example, Spain is monarchy nowadays because Spanish people did not manage to expel the royalty from power, as other European countries such as France did during the Enlightment era.

Moreover, knowing history is crucial to understand what was wrongly or properly approached by others before us, specially not to commit the same mistakes. For example, when studying how fascist states gained popular support in certain country (ex. nazis in Germany, or fascists in Italy), is important to understand the reasons that drove so many human minds to follow their extremist ideas, in order to avoid such a terrible power rises again in the future.

The Bolshevik Party, headed by Vladimir Lenin, was a radical Marxist party.
