Answer:

The Embargo Act was a restriction on US trade with the rest of the world that was in force from 1806 to 1810. President Thomas Jefferson imposed this embargo mainly against Britain and France.

At the beginning of the 19th century, European countries were at war with each other. The United States officially maintained neutrality in this conflict. Nevertheless, ships flying the American flag were often stopped for inspection by British and French ships, and sometimes were captured. Jefferson did not respond to such cases by directly declaring war on these countries, but decided to force Britain and France to respect US neutrality by imposing a trade embargo.

Gradually, in the period from 1806 to 1810, the laws on the embargo changed due to the large number of errors and loopholes made in their preparation. However, the trade embargo still did not bring the desired effect, and in 1812 the United States entered in a war with Great Britain.

Why did tensions between the us and the soviet union become so great after world war II
elena55 [62]

Tensions arose between the United States and the Soviet Union because both emerged as the dominant superpowers in the aftermath of WWII. Moreover, the ideologies of these countries differed. The United States favored a capitalist system and the Soviet Union supported Communism. The partition of Germany into East and West Germany and the fear that Communism would spread to other parts of the world led to efforts to contain the threat. Competition between the two countries also led to the Space Race.
