The policy was often referred to as the  Hartford Convention. Where Federalists opposed to the War of 1812 tried to have New England secede from the country. And the Democrat-Republicans became the only viable political party, James Monroe won the 1816 election with 80 percent of the vote and the Era of Good Feelings began.

Under the sharecropping scheme, the landlord normally supplied the money to buy the seed and the machinery required to plant, cultivate and harvest the grain, while the sharecropper supplied the labour. In such lease agreements, the worker, not the landowner, took blame.
