The North west Ordinance of 1787 allowed the movement of people to the west and promised to incorporated the land north of Mississippi into USA. It also established the policies for governing the Western territories and added several new laws in the constitution. The ordinance included the laws for protecting the  public education and Indian land rights, rights of the accused, admission of new states and <u>prohibition of slavery in the new territories</u> and freedom of religion.The territory included the future states of Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio.
