The graphic illustrates the principle of Separation of Powers which refers to the division of power and responsibilities of the government into three branches: the Judicial, the Executive and the Legislative. This principle prevents the government from being controlled by one branch or by one person, and it sets the basis for the <em>Checks and Balances</em> system in which all branches oversee, check and limit the power of each other.
