On a worksheet, select the cell or range of cells that you want to add a border to. Then, on the Home tab, go to the Font group and click the arrow next to Borders. There you shall be able to click a border style.

In order to apply formatting to any area on the spreadsheet you need to first select all of the cells that you want the formatting to be applied to.  After selecting the cells that you want the border around you need to go to the Home tab and then the font group.  From the font group choose the border icon for outside border.  This will put a border around the outside of the selected group of cells.
