When in the Course of human events it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation. This is a key point in the Declaration of Independence that was rooted out of the American Revolution that’s sums up a great deal why we look towards a democratic republic form of government today.

The Constitutional Convention took place in 1787 and is known by many other names also like Grand Convention at Philadelphia, The Federal Convention or the Philadelphia Convention etc. The key compromises include the Great Compromise which solved the issue of representation in Congress. Three-Fifth Compromise according to which every five slaves were equal to three free people. Trade Compromise where the president was given the power to sign contracts with other countries given the condition that two-third of the Senate approve the contract. The other compromises included Slave Trade Compromise and the Electoral College.
