Mathematics

Well when you convert fractions to decimals, you simply divide the numerator by the dominator.
To convert decimals to percents, you take the fraction and divide the numerator by the dominator and times that by 100.
For example, 4/25*100=16%

A 40 foot long wire stretches from the top of a vertical pole to a stake in the ground 18 feet from the foot of the pole. find,
Agata [3.3K]

The measure of the acute angle that the wire makes with the ground is 63.27°.

The situation forms a right angle triangle.

How to find the angle of a right triangle?

The length of the wire is the hypotenuse of the right triangle.

The distance from the foot of the pole is the adjacent side of the right triangle.

Therefore,

cos ∅ = adjacent / hypotenuse

cos ∅ = 18 / 40

cos ∅ = 0.45

∅ = cos⁻¹ 0.45

∅ = 63.2563160496

∅ = 63.27°

Sauron is looking down at the hobbits from The Dark Tower at a 28º angle. His tower stands 1,400 meters tall. How far are Frodo
VladimirAG [237]

By using what we know about right triangles, we will see that the hobbits are at 744.39 meters from the Dark Tower.

How far are the hobbits from the Dark Tower?

We can think of this situation as in a right triangle, where the catheti are the height of the tower and the distance between the hobbits and the Dark Tower.

Then we can use the relation:

Tan(θ) = (opposite cathetus)/(adjacent cathetus)

Where θ = 28°

The adjacent cathetus to this angle is the height of the tower, then:

Adjacent cathetus = 1,400 m

And the opposite cathetus is the distance that we want to find, let's call it D.

Tan(28°) = D/1,400m

Solving for D we get:

Tan(28°)*1,400m = D = 744.39m

The hobbits are at 744.39 meters from the Dark Tower.
