Noah Webster's Dictionary(1806) was the first voluminous English dictionary with more than five thousand words. It contained several impressive features like orthography and chronological tables but the most significant feature is that it showed the complete etymology of the word and the second most appealing feature of this is that it kept updating since then. It is this feature for which it is still recognized as an authentic source to know the meaning and derivation of various English words. Not only this, she also provided definitions to the words using quotations from distinct authors with the illustrations making it the most worthy source of information.
