Legalism was a philosophical belief that stated the humans are more inclined to do wrong than right, this motivated by self-interest.  Shi Huangdi banned all other philosophies as a corrupting influence, ordered to burn and disappear all the history and philosophy books that didn't correspond to Legalism, their family line or the Qin dynasty, this meant a huge loss in Chinese life and culture.
