During the Holocaust, millions of Jewish people were mistreated and killed. Others that escaped death lived without their family and homes or their freedoms taken away. The restrictions that were placed upon Jews were meant to discourage and weaken their spirit.

Here are a few of the restrictions placed on Jews living in the Netherlands:
1. Jewish people were not allowed to own their own business.
2. Jewish children were sent to a separate Jewish school.
3. Starting in May of 1942, all Jewish people were required to wear a yellow star on their clothing. The star had the word "Jew' on it.
4. Limits on recreational activities - They had to turn in their bicycles. Jews could not go to theaters or movies. Parks and fields used for sports were forbidden.
5. Limits on public appearances - Jews could not use the tram, ride in, or own cars. They could only shop during certain hours of the day and could only use Jewish-owned hair salons or barbers. Jewish people were not permitted to leave their homes between 8pm and 6am.

Although these restrictions did not result in death for Jewish people, they still had severe emotional and psychological effects.

Why is the declaration of independence named the declaration of independence
Setler [38]
The Declaration of Independence is named the Declaration of Independence because it is when the 13 colonies wrote their grievances to Great Britain and stated they will be separated from Britain's rule and be their own nation.
