It was the capture of Jerusalem by the Seljuk Turks that happen in 1055.  Many nobles joined to free the Holy City from Muslim control.  Some were committed while others wanted wealth and land.  There were several Crusades launched but in the end, the Middle East still remained under Muslim control.
