The Arabs captured territory around the Mediterranean but failed to take Constantinople.

Explanation:

The Arabs became interested in conquering the Byzantine Empire, which was the Eastern section of the Roman Empire. In order to do so, they spread armies all over the Byzantine Empire. Although a lot of territory around the Mediterranean was captured, they failed to take Constantinople. It was only in 1453 that the Ottoman Turks were able to invade and take Constantinople. The area had been particularly difficult to conquer due to its location.
