Anse has problems related to his bad decision making and negligence in life, he has problems related to his family, health, death, and money; but he sees them as "bad luck" which is his main concern in all that happens to him.

Now even while all of this is happening he is always worried about the road in front of his house as he thinks that is the source of his bad luck.
