After the reconstruction, a tax-supported school system was introduced.  Also, the economy shifted from a few agriculture and industrial-based products to a wide variety.  Finally, the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments gave hope to the colored people (in both the North and South) that racial equality would one day exist.

The colonists valued their rights so highly because the king of England didn’t give them any freedoms or rights. The colonists didn’t have any of the rights that we have today so they fought hard to make sure everyone was treated fairly. It’s the only just thing to do.
