THE NATIVE AMERICAN
Explorers from Europe came to the "New World" of North America in the 1500s, it was an unknown place to them. They saw it as an entirely new land, with animals, plants, and people with a fascinating way of life and languages different from what they have ever known or heard. This New World is what is called the American Indians or Native Americans today.
We learned from Archaeologists that American Indians may have lived in the North American continent for fifty thousand years. They were the first Americans, history has it that they were great explorers, they didn't come to this continent all at once rather, these ancient adventurers arrived at different times, over several thousands of years. Their journey took them through icy landscapes and along the coastlines from Asia on foot or by boat to the continent. They were great hunters and productive farmers, they built towns and traded over large distances with other tribes. These were the people the European explorers met when their ships landed in America.
On meeting their European visitors, they developed trade ties as the Native Americans became very interested in things that the colonists could provide while the Europeans were interested in what the Native Americans have. In a short while, the new materials and products became useful in the daily lives of the Native Americans. This made the American Indian men replaced their bows and arrows for European firearms, powder, and lead shot. The tradition of simple hunting for food changed to getting animal hides and pelts to trade, to the extent that the Native Americans depended on European items for daily needs. The Europeans also brought rum that caused many problems for some tribes. In all, the new trade changed Native American lives forever.
