Horses and donkeys are diploid organisms. A horse has 64 total chromosomes, where a donkey has 62. A cross between a female hors

e and a male donkey produces a mule, which is usually sterile. There are _____ chromosomes in an egg produced by the horse, _____ chromosomes in a sperm produced by the donkey, and _____ total chromosomes in an offspring mule.

Answer: There are 32 chromosomes in an egg produced by the horse, 31 chromosomes in a sperm produced by the donkey, and 63 total chromosomes in an offspring mule.

Explanation:

Organisms are diploid, which means they have two copies of each gene. For example, the horse is 2n=64 and the donkey is 2n=62, because there are two sets of chromosomes in each animal.

Gametes are sex cells, which can be either an egg (in females) or sperm (in males) and they are produced through a process called Meiosis. It occurs in the gonads and it is a process of cell division in which a diploid cell (2n) undergoes two successive divisions, with the capacity to generate four haploid cells (n). So in organisms with sexual reproduction it is important because it is the mechanism by which oocytes and sperm (gametes) are produced.

During meiosis I homologous chromosomes are separated. This reductive division is responsible for the maintenance of the characteristic chromosome number of each species. In meiosis II, the sister chromatids that form each chromosome are separated and distributed among the nuclei of the daughter cells. Between these two successive stages there is no S stage (DNA replication). So the maturation of the daughter cells will give rise to the gametes.

Then, this means there are 32 chromosomes in an egg produced by the horse, because the horse has a total of 64 chromosomes. And there are 31 chromosomes in sperm produced by the donkey because it has a total of 62 chromosomes. Therefore, during fecundation, the egg fuses with the sperm (32 chromosomes + 31 chromosomes) wich will produce a zygote with a total of 63 chromosomes.

Answer:

There are 32 number of chromosome in egg cells of female horse while 31 number of chromosome in sperm of male donkey so the offspring produce from this fusion is mule having 63 number of chromosome.

Explanation:

Sperm and egg cells are the type of sex cells that contain half number of chromosome. Total number of chromosomes in horse is 64 and its half is 32 while total number of chromosome in donkey is 62 and its half is 31. So the mule have 63 number of chromosome.

Which element is most similar in chemical reactivity to nitrogen (N)?0
tamaranim1 [39]

Answer: Phosphorous

Explanation:

Phosphorus and Nitrogen are similar in nature as they have 5 electrons in the outermost shell. Nitrogen and phosphorous belong to the same family on the periodic table.

As phosphorus lies just below nitrogen the characteristics of both the elements will be similar.

They are found abundant on earth and are cycle by biogeochemical cycle.

Somatic hypermutation of V genes
zaharov [31]

Answer:

Somatic hypermutation is a process in which point mutations build up in the antibody V-regions of both the heavy and light chains.

This process occurs at rates that are about 106-fold higher than the background mutation rates observed in other genes.

It allows B cells to mutate the genes that they use to produce antibodies. This then ensures the B cells to produce antibodies that are better able to bind to bacteria, viruses and other infections.

How come one type of matter can be converted to a totally different one?
wariber [46]

Answer:

Explanation:
