The cheetah traveled 15.334 miles approximately.

<u>SOLUTION:</u>

Given, Suppose the cheetah sprinted at maximum speed for 8 minutes

Then, slowed to 40mph the next 8 minutes

We have to find how far would the cheetah have traveled

Now, we know that, maximum speed of cheetah is 68 – 75 mph, as we want maximum we are taking 75 which greater than 68.

So, cheetah sprinted at 75 mph for 8 minutes and then sprinted at 40 mph for next 8 minutes.

First let us convert 8 minutes into hours,

\rightarrow 8 \text { minutes }=8 \times \frac{1}{60}=\frac{2}{15} \text { hours }

Total distance traveled = distance traveled with 75 mph speed + distance traveled with 40 mph speed

\begin{array}{l}{\text {distance}=\text {speed} \times \text {time}} \\\\ {\text {Total distance}=75 \mathrm{mph} \times \frac{2}{15} \text { hours }+40 \mathrm{mph} \times \frac{2}{15} \text { hours }} \\\\ {\text { Total distance }=5 \times 2+8 \times \frac{2}{3}=10+\frac{16}{3}=10+5.334=15.334}\end{array}

Hence, the cheetah traveled 15.334 miles approximately.

Select the correct answer.<br> What is the equation of the parabola shown in the graph?
hodyreva [135]

Answer:

x=y2/8+y/2+9/2

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:

directrix: x=2

focus = (6,-2)

Standard equation of parabola is given by:

(y - k)2 = 4p (x - h)

where

directrix : x=h-p

focus=(h + p, k)

Now comparing the give value with above:

(h + p, k)= (6,-2)

k=-2

h+p=6

h=6-p

Also

directrix: x=h-p

h-p=2

Putting value of h=6-p in above

6-p-p=2

6-2p=2

-2p=2-6

-2p=-4

p=-4/-2

p=2

Putting p=2 in h-p=2

h=2+p

h=2+2

h=4

Putting k=-2, p=2, h=4 in standard equation of parabola we get:

(y - k)2 = 4p (x - h)

(y-(-2))^2 = 4(2) (x - 4)

(y+2)^2 = 8 (x - 4)

y2+4y+4=8x-32

y2+4y+4+32=8x

x=y2/8+4y/8+36/8

x=y2/8+y/2+9/2!

The profits of mr cash’s company is represented by the equation p(t)=-3t^2+18t-4, where p(t) is the amount of profit in hundreds
Anika [276]

Answer:

  • $2300000- max profit
  • 5.77 years into operation - zero profit time

Step-by-step explanation:

<u>Given function:</u>

  • p(t)= -3t^2 + 18t - 4

It is a quadratic function with general form of y = ax^2 + bx + c

It opens down if a < 0 and gets maximum value at vertex which is determined at x = -b/2a

<u>For the given function vertex is:</u>

  • t = -18/-3*2 = 3

<u>Maximum value of p is:</u>

  • p(3) = -3*3^2 + 18*3 - 4 = -27 + 54 - 4 = 23 ($2300000)

<u>The time when profit is zero:</u>

  • -3t^2 + 18t - 4 = 0
  • 3t^2 - 18t + 4 = 0
  • t = (18 ± √18² - 4*3*4)/2*3 = (18 ± √276)/6 = (18 ± 16.61)/6
  • t = (18 - 16.61)/6 = 0.23 this is the time when company has just started to make profit, it is not applicable as is the past time
  • t =  (18 + 16.61)/6 = 5.77 years into operation, after this time there will be no profit

Problem 5. Buses arrive at 116th and Broadway at the times of a Poisson arrival process with intensity λ arrivals per hour. Thes
Shtirlitz [24]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

The problem states that there are only two types of busses - M104 and M6 with probable occurence of 0.6 and 0.4 respectively.

If the average number of busses arriving per hour is λ, the average number of M6 busses per hour is  0.4λ

Now consider a set of 3 M6 busses as an event. The average number of such events per hour will be

μ = 0.4λ / 3

The expected number of hours for the event "THIRD M6 arrives", let's say X is

E[X] = 1 / μ ( exponential distribution) = 3 / 0.4λ

= 7.5 / λ

The variance of event X is =

Var[x] = \frac{1}{U^2} = \frac{56.25}{\lambda ^2}
