That momentous day stirred the Russians to revolt against the dictatorship of the Imperial Government led by Tsar Nicholas II. The deliberate killing of the unarmed demonstrators at the Gate of St Peterburg en route to Winter Palace is estimated to claim for more than 3,000 lives.
